Franco-Prussian War – Guerre de 1870

photo_104_war_1870You don’t often see a separate memorial for the Franco-Prussian War or Franco-German War often referred to in France as the War of 1870 (19 July 1870 – 10 May 1871), The conflict, between the Second French Empire and the German states of the North German Confederation led by the Kingdom of Prussia, was caused by Prussian ambitions to extend German unification.. The war ended with the fall of the Second Empire and Emperor Napoleon III. The Third Republic was proclaimed and the French territory of Alsace-Loire handed over to Germany.

Regarding your comment at my blog, the photos I’m presenting at present are from May. Our Tulip Festival goes from early May to about the third weekend. When we get hot days, that pretty much spells the end of them. Most of the tulips have now been dug out and the crews are replacing them with flowers that’ll go all summer.
