We discovered this Renaissance porch which was built in 1555 quite by accident on the cycle route along the Loir River (not the Loire) between Montoire and Vendôme. Château de la Mézière belonged to the Taillevis family for many generations. Raphaël de Taillevis was a physician and friend of the King of Navarre, Antoine de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme, and father of Henri IV. The King of Navarre and Jeanne d’Albret came regularly to Château de Mézière after they were married. Today, the Orangery is used for weddings and other similar events.
Le château de la Mézière a appartenu pendant des générations à la famille de Taillevis, dont Raphaël de Taillevis était médecin et ami du roi de Navarre, Antoine de Bourbon, duc de Vendôme, père d’Henri IV. Après leur mariage, le Roi de Navarre et Jeanne d’Albret venaient régulièrement au château de la Mézière. Aujourd’hui l’Orangerie accueille des mariages et autres événements.
