Armistice in Molineuf

11th November is a public holiday in France and Belgium. It commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.” A ceremony takes place in each town and flowers are placed on the war memorial. This is in Molineuf where we began our walk today. Ir’s a very small wreath.

We went to the ceremony in Preuilly as usual. It always ends with a vin d’honneur in the salle des fêtes. Rather sweetly, one of the local councillors makes savoury cakes to go with the sparkling Vouvray and cider that is handed round. The cakes are delicious!

@Susan – Oh, lovely! I’ve never been to the one at Les Grouets but since it’s in front of the church, there is probably no vouvray, let alone cakes!
@William – I don’t know if people go to war museums here very much any more.
