Postcard #17 – Holasovice, Bohemia

179_baroque_village_holasoviceI could have published scores of photos of Cesky Krumlov, but I thought I should choose somewhere else! We cycled 25 k up hill and down dale to this historical village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. It was deserted after the Second World War, which left its medieval plan and vernacular buildings in the Rural Baroque style intact. Many of the buildings were built in the 1770s. The village was restored and repopulated from 1990. The wooden structure on the right is to draw water from a well.
