18151_chateau_moulin_4This delightful castle near Mur-en-Sologne was built at the turn of the 15th century for Philippe du Moulin. It combines the features of the feudal castle of the Middle Ages and the seigniorial abode of the Renaissance: moats, loopholes, machicolations and a keep with a footbridge (as opposed to a drawbridge) are enhanced with mullion windows and ornamental shells. You can walk right around the moat and get a 360° view. We visited the fascinating inside as well.

Well, that’s a coincidence! I’ll post pictures of the inside as well.

Well, thank you! We actually went back in the afternoon for the photos. We began our day’s cycling by driving to the château and started the visit (50 mins) at 10.30 am. The sun was over to the left of the château. When we were leaving we flipped through a book called “Trésors cachés du Val de Loire”, open at Château du Moulin. I commented to Jean MIchel that we couldn’t take the photos shown because we couldn’t go on the other side of the moat. The lady selling the tickets heard me and said that there was a path so we said we’d come back after cycling to Contres for lunch. So I took a second lot of photos just before 5 pm when the light was much better. I’ll post photos of the inside as well. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
