Day #1 – Postcard from Belgium – Dinant & the Saxophone

This is day one of our summer cycling holiday culminating in Denmark via Belgium and Germany. We are staying in Namur and cycled today to Dinant which is 25 km south along the Meuse and the birthplace of Adolphe Sax inventor of the saxophone in the 1840s. There are brightly colored saxophones on the bridge and other places in the town, each representing a different country. We had to shelter twice from a downpour but had sun the rest of the time.
Nous sommes au premier jour de nos vacances vélo d’été. Nous sommes dans un appartement à Namur et aujourd’hui nous avons parcouru 25 km vers le sud le long de la Meuse pour aller à Dinant la ville natale d’Alphonse Sax qui a inventé le saxophone dans les années 1840. Il y a des saxophones de couleur vive sur le pont et à d’autres endroits dans la ville, chacun représentant un pays différent. Nous avons dû nous abriter de la pluie deux fois mais le reste du temps il faisait beau.
