Château de l’Islette

And the winner is Kees from The Netherlands followed by Timothy from Australia! This little-known château opened to the public in 2010 is just down the road from Azay-le-Rideau, one of my favourites. It’s construction was completed in 1530. Camille Claudel and Rodin stayed there several times around 1890 and there are many letters and some of her works on display. We particularly like the setting of the old mill house recently restored.

Absolutely. We nearly didn’t go there. We had another visit planned to a garden but I was chatting to the restaurant owner at lunchtime who said it was closed and suggested Islette instead. It was also our guide’s first day and she was a bit stilted but very knowledgeable. I am a great fan of Camille Claudel so it was an added attraction.
