The City Daily Photo theme for December is worker. This is Jean Michel drilling a hole through a 70 cm wall which is what you sometimes need to do when you live in a house that is over 400 years old!

I thought this swan on the Loire was perfect for this month’s theme of “movement” and also to announce a change of name from Blois Daily Photo to Loire Daily Photo to correspond better to my life in this part of France! For other entries in City Daily Photo, click here.

This one was a challenge for me because takeaways apart from pizza and hamburgers are not part of French culture. However, we have traiteurs, which are a bit like delicatessens, where you can buy prepared meals. On today’s menu: blood sausage & Caribbean grill on the left-hand board and stag sausage and terrine on the right-hand board.

Ce thème était un défi pour moi parce que les plats à emporters à l’exception des pizzas et hamburgers ne font pas partie de la culture française. Il existe néanmoins des traiteurs (qui correspondent plus ou moins aux delicatessens en anglais) où on peut acheter des plats préparés.

These sculpted stone squares, in the lapidary section of Blois Castle, are both symbolic of François Ier, King of France from 1515 to 1547. The first shows his initial, F, surrounded by a monk’s cord with three knots forming an 8, which was the emblem of his mother, Louise de Savvoie. The second is the traditional salamander.
Ces carrés sculptés, qui se trouvent dans la section lapidaire du château de Blois, sont des symboles de François Ier, roi de France entre 1515 et 1547. The premier est son initial, F, entouré d’ une corde de moine à trois noeuds en 8. Ce noeud était l’emblème de Louise de Savoie, mère de François Ier. Le deuxième est son salamandre traditionnel.

We bought a very large ladder so that Jean Michel can climb up to the roof of our house, particularly to check the gutters. No way would I go up there! I don’t have a head for heights. Not like the hornet nest destroyer who climbed up on the roof recently!
