This beautiful stone monumental staircase, of the octogonal turret type, with its finely sculpted newel, embrasures and capitals, graces the François I wing of the Royal Castle of Blois.

I could also have said “noyau” in this case. The “fût” is always solid as opposed to the “noyau” which can also be “évidé or hollow. When it is solid, then “fût” is the correct technical term rather than “noyau”.
