Postcard from India – Marble & Precious Stones

Both the Taj Mahal (above) and the Red Fort in Agra (below) are made of white marble inlaid with precious stones, such as rubies (red), malachite and jade (green), tourmaline (red and orange), lapis lazuli (blue), onyx (black) and, mother-of-pearl  which have stood up to the elements for more than 400 years. The same techniques are still used today by descendants of the same families of artisans to produce beautiful tables, plaques and vases.
Le Taj Mahal (ci-dessus) et le Fort Rouge à Agra (ci-dessous) sont en marbre blanc incrusté de pierres précieuses telles le rubis (rouge), la malachite  et le jade (vert), la tourmaline (rouge et orange), le lapis lazuli (bleu),l’onyx (noir) et la nacre,  qui ont résisté aux intempéries pendant plus de 400 ans. Les mêmes techniques sont encore utilisées aujourd’hui par les descendants des mêmes familles d’artisans pour produire des tables,plaques et vases magnifiques.
